When Goals and Plans Go Awry
How are your goals going friend?
I had to start and stop this episode multiple times because it just didn’t feel right.
Which is ironic given the topic for this week’s episode. So even I have to stop and take my own advice sometimes.
Sometimes no matter how well we plan, things can go awry. And then our brain can actually make it worse if we don’t understand how it works….
Remember back to some of our earlier episodes when I taught you that our brain defaults to keep you safe?
When something we planned goes differently than the plan, our brain naturally thinks that the new thing we are trying to accomplish must be wrong.
So how do we stop our brains from doing this? I am so glad you asked.
Because let me tell you, I have been there. I have made plans and they did not go as expected.
And I was disheartened...
I was confused...
I wanted to turn back...
Then I realized what our brain was doing and learned how to prepare my brain for those thoughts and feelings.
I figured out how to make sure my brain was ready for potential failures and by preparing my brain, suddenly the potential for failure wasn’t a failure at all…..
The possibility of something going wrong actually became a part of the potential plan and suddenly my brain was working WITH me to accomplish these goals instead of against me.
