I don’t want anything for Christmas…
“I don’t want anything for Christmas- Is something wrong with me?”
Are you the type of person who dreads when family members or friends ask “What do you want for Christmas?”
Do you get to November 1st and think, “Someone is going to ask me for my Christmas list soon” with a sense of tiredness and anxiety?
A listener reached out to me with the question, “I don’t want anything for Christmas- Is something wrong with me?”
Gift giving during holidays and birthdays is a social norm in many customs and cultures. For many, gift giving is a love language and they view it as a way to truly show they care about others.
Sometimes though, the types of wants we have may conflict with the way people want to show their affection for you. Maybe you like experiences and they like watching you unwrap lots of little trinkets?
I hear you. I understand you.
This week, we are going to talk through the various feelings, emotions and thoughts that can come up for you in your personal life when it comes to the custom of gift giving.
We discuss:
· Why not wanting things doesn’t mean something is wrong with you
· How honoring these feelings is honoring yourself
· What these feelings about gift giving does or does not mean about your feelings towards Family and Friends
How voicing your true feelings in a respectful way can bring you and others to greater understanding when it comes to your gift giving preferences
